Clear finishes, White Finishes or Coloured Finishes STANDARDS and PERFORMANCE The test method used to assess the effectiveness of flame retardent products is BS 476, Part 7 1987 and is used to classify a material in terms of "Spread of Flame". Class 1 is a low surface spread of flame, the highest achievable with the test method and is a performance normally required for walls and ceilings. In high risk areas (i.e. escape routes) Class 0, limited combustibility, is required. To comply materials must have a Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame and a low fire propagation to BS 476 Part 6 1989. Intumescent coatings are used to prevent
the penetration of fire through a structure for a specific period in accordance
with BS 476, Part 20-23, 1987. Such coatings are given classifications for specific
periods of time, such as '30 minutes'. All products have been designed for ease of application, environmental considerations and have been tested in NAMAS approved laboratories to the relevant national standards. The following charts provide the products and the number of coats to achieve the various fire classifications in different situations

* S42/AP ADHESION PRIMER Product System 42 - 30 MINUTES New Timber Surfaces Painted, varnished or stained surfaces
* S42/AP ADHESION PRIMER Clear finishes for interior & EXTERIOR applications - CLASS 0&1, UK Building Regulations to BS476 Parts 6, 7 Product System 92/FR CLASS 0 and 1
Clear or coloured finishes for interior application to upgrade raise and fielded doors, ledged and braced doors, paneled doors, decorative paneling and other timber surfaces to BS476 Part 22 (1987) for 30 minute protection. Contact the technical department for details of upgrade systems for flat paneled doors. Product System 103/RFC - 30 MINUTES
S103/RFC can be supplied as a kit containing sufficient product to coat both sides of a standard paneled door. A minimum of panel thickness of 9mm is required at the point it meets the stile or rail. When using S103/RFC for upgrading standard doors to 30-minute fire doors, it must be used as part of an overall program to include Intumescent fire/smoke seal and lock, hinge and door closer Intumescent protection card.
