Weather Protection

Any wood exposed to sunlight and rain will lose its original colour over a period of time. This is caused mainly by the UV component in sunlight breaking down certain parts of the wood and the subsequent removal of the breakdown products by rain. The rain will also remove water-soluble extractives from the wood over a short period of time. This results in a surface consisting of loosely matted fibres, which is commonly streaked with dirt and darkened by fungal and iron stains. Natural finishes will protect the wood from such disfigurements and are used where the principal reason is the appearance of the exterior timber. All types of natural finishes are less durable than opaque coatings so maintenance intervals will be shorter.

UNIVERSAL WATER REPELLENT (WB)

A transparent, single pack, ready to use microporous, water repellent designed for application to most items of exterior joinery to provide a rain-proof finish.. When dry the product reduces water ingress and leaching of water-soluble timber preservatives.
Full water repellence is achieved after approximately 48 hours and, if necessary, can be overpainted with water or solvent based wood stains after 72 hours.
Suitable for use on timber decking to lessen the occurrence of algae by shedding water from the surface, by providing a water resistant finish.

OAKOTE 600

A single pack, clear, waterborne coating based on a blend of polymers and paraffin wax designed for interior and exterior application to "green" oak and other timber components.
The product dries quickly to create a protective, vapour permeable, water repellent surface, which reduces water uptake but allows the natural drying and weathering processes to continue.
